Faeries

Faeries are fantasy creatures whom are normally portrayed as having insect-like wings and being about an inch tall, usually wearing short skirts and tunics made out of natural material and/or plants. They are often spelled incorrectly as 'fairy', or sometimes referred to (under their more correct name) Fae or faefolk.

This, however, is rarely the truth. They are winged, but not all have insect-like wings. The wings can be bat-like or bird-like, or not be there at all, occasionally. Faeries are not always one inch tall. They can be just about anywhere from one inch to five feet tall when fully grown. Some age at a normal human rate, but others age at about half the speed of a normal human, causing some to appear to be a four year old human at age fifteen, for example.

Faeries do not wear stereotypical clothing. Some do by tradition, but it is not abnormal to see humans dressed according to their traditions. Faeries can wear any type of clothing that fits that they wanted to wear.

Faeries do have magickal powers and an element (Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Storm, Ice/Snow, Spell, Rune, or Plant) that they have an affinity for, and their powers are aligned to. They occasionally follow paths (Good, Evil, Darke, or Neutral) that they also behave according to.

Faeries are pretty much like humans only winged and with stronger, more natural, powers. Humans do not always have strong powers due to their common absence of belief in any kind of magick. Faeries do not always play wooden flutes and dance in faerie circles, though they do love music and often play an instrument.

Like ghosts, faeries can sometimes haunt magickal places and keep humans from destroying the magickal shield barrier of power, such as magick circles, forests, and otherwise. They do not appear and scare the human, though, because that would invoke their curiosity. Instead they mentally give the human a message to leave the place, a bad feeling about it maybe, or a reminder or direction away from the place.

They do not have oddly colored skin. They never do. They eat plants, yes, and are herbivores, but that is just like being a vegetarian. Faeries only eat natural plants, however. They cannot eat processed or chemically affected plants. They never eat meat, as their stomachs cannot handle it, and it is against their fae traditions besides.

Faeries have been around for a long time, farther back than humans. They have evolved much but not too much. They are knowledgeable and know much about spells, runes, and potion-making. They cannot be captured and kept as a pet as that would be cruel, barbaric kidnapping due to their human resemblance. Faerie blood does have magickal properties but only to good use, and any good-hearted person would never take the blood of a faerie, unless it were given willingly to them by the faerie him/herself. Faeries can be male, against common (and stupid) belief.

Faeries can live up to around 5 to 300 years, depending on the type of faerie. The small ones live shorter lives, but the larger ones can live very long in forests or among humans (while disguised) as long as they are not discovered. Sickeningly enough, there are faerie hunters out there, but gratefully very few.
